PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release:
Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Utah is 'In the Swim' With UAW-GM Rubber Ducky Derby

15th Annual Fund-Raiser to Grant Wishes of Local Children

SALT LAKE CITY — August 1, 2003— The 15th annual Rubber Ducky Derby, benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah, will be held August 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Raging Waters, 1200 W. 1700 South, Salt Lake City.

Thanks to the generosity of presenting sponsor Jerry Seiner Dealerships and the ongoing national sponsorship of the Make-A-Wish Foundation by the International Union, UAW and General Motors, thousands of adopted rubber duckies will once again take the plunge this month in a race to win a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, donated by Seiner Dealerships, and other prizes. All proceeds will help grant wishes for Utah children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Ducky adoption forms are available at Jerry Seiner Dealerships, Utah Maverik locations or online at www.makeawishutah.org. Participants need not be present to win, but are invited to join us at Raging Waters to cheer on the duckies and to hear musicians Shane Jackman and Greg Simpson, who will be jamming at the Lazy River Island.

Ducky adopters will receive a two-for-one admission to Raging Waters, valid through Sept. 1, 2003, and a coupon for $5 off a lube/oil/filter for any GM vehicle from Jerry Seiner Dealerships.

Last year's Ducky Derby raised enough money to grant 34 wishes for area children, like Brandon, 5, who wished to be a cowboy; Rachel, 16, who wanted to swim with dolphins; and Tyler, 8, who wished to have a "cool fort."

Jerry Seiner's GM dealerships include Jerry Seiner Salt Lake Chevrolet-Oldsmobile-Cadillac-HUMMER, 1530 S. 500 West, Salt Lake City; Jerry Seiner South Jordan Pontiac-Buick-GMC-HUMMER, 1600 South and I-15, South Jordan; and Jerry Seiner Bountiful Pontiac-Buick-GMC, Bountiful/Cross Woods Exit 318 and I-15, North Salt Lake. No purchase necessary to enter or win.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Born in 1980 when a group of caring individuals helped a young boy fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer, the Foundation is now the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 67 chapters in the U.S. and its territories. With the help of generous donors and nearly 25,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation grants a wish every 40 minutes and has granted more than 161,000 wishes in the U.S. since inception. For more information about the Make-A-Wish Foundation, visit www.wish.org and discover how you can share the power of a wish®.

With the help of generous donors and volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah grants over 100 wishes a year. For more information about the Make-A-Wish Foundation, visit www.makeawishutah.org.

In 1999, the International Union, UAW and General Motors (GM) announced a national sponsorship of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Together, they made a commitment to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions across the country and are truly “Making Smiles Standard Equipment®.”

In support of this sponsorship, UAW-GM people, GM employees and GM dealers in communities around the country have personally committed to volunteerism, fund raising and wish granting…truly "Making Smiles Standard Equipment®" for these courageous children.

UAW-GM support comes from the UAW-GM Center for Human Resources, which develops and administers education, training and retraining programs and joint activities for thousands of UAW-represented GM employees.
